Changing Careers – Stressful indeed?

Changing careers can be a difficult and stressful decision at any time. Career changes can be even more stressful for baby boomers as they are either reaching the height of their career, getting closer to the end of their careers or they have already ended their traditional careers.

Has your career, your life just become a bumper sticker – lost your purpose, your direction?

Some of the reasons for career changing:

  • The downsizing or restructuring of industries
  • New challenge needed
  • Negative work environment
  • Change needed in your balance of work and life
  • Not appreciated
  • Money and/or benefits not adequate
  • Relocation

According to a recent article nearly fifty percent of people currently employed spend about an hour per day searching for another position.

To succeed in changing your career, one must focus on a number of important things that will help facilitate change:

  • Education and/or skill set
  • Resources to accomplish the task
  • Clear and defined tasks to attain goals
  • Strong determination to achieve goals

Success is in the mind of the beholder. To achieve success it is up to you to make the conscious decision to work for that goal. Everyone’s version of success is different. It is up to you to determine what your true goals are and what determines success for you.

Life is more complex, more demanding, more involved, worldlier and more stressful than ever. We have moved from a traditional industrial manufacturing base to the super highway of internet and informational technology of global proportions.

This transition has created profound changes in the way we perceive our careers and our society.
